Programmes and Services

The Current Programmes and services of Save Orphans Uganda include:
 
1. CREATING AWARENESS IN THE SOCIETY ABOUT
a) Skills of life; addressing the causes, prevention and effects of HIV/AIDS and other diseases like malaria, tuberculosis and reproductive health problems.
b) Health and sanitation; equipping the orphans and the community with information and tools against poor health and sanitation, in order to create a disease free environment.
c) Environmental and nature conservation.
d) Nutrition, addressing the causes and prevention of malnutrition
e) Drug abuse; effects and prevention.
2. GUIDANCE AND COUSELLING
a) Addressing the stigma that results from the loss of parent(s) as a result of various causes, HIV/AIDS a case in point.
b) Children’s Right awareness to the community, the orphans, guardians and the relevant care takers aimed at reducing & curbing child abuse.
c) Creating hope for the orphans to live through opening avenues of integrating the orphans in society like vocational centers, orphanages and other recreational activities.
 
3. EDUCATION
SOU is currently aiding 120 orphans with scholastic materials and small bursaries to the very bright ones.

Future Goals of SOU

1. To have orphans empowered and ensuring their rights are protected.
2. To have an education fund for the orphans.
3. To have orphans and widows whose socio- economic and political welfare is improved.
4. To create a society with   reduced disease prevalence rates.
5. To have a community that exploits natural resources sustain ably to conserve the environment.
6. To have orphanage homes and rehabilitation centres to benefit the various victims.
7. To create information and communication (ICT) centres.
8.  To create opportunities for extensive vocational training of the target groups.
9. To be one of the leading Organizations in Uganda and the entire world.

Past Accomplishments

  • SOU has secured a certificate of registration with the NGO board secretariat and a certificate of incorporation with the registrar of companies in Uganda.
  • SOU has developed a competent human resource that can handle the activities of the Organization.
  • SOU has developed a network of pattern organizations.
  • SOU carried out a feasibility study to find out the life of the orphans and other disadvantaged groups.
  • SOU supports 120 orphans in  various schools around Kampala.
  • SOU has carried out a number of sensitization seminars in schools, churches and community centres about HIV/AIDS and other health related issues; environmental conservation and children’s rights awareness among others.
  • A needs assessment and statistical data about HIV/AIDS and malaria prevalence rates has been done.
  • Urban sustainable farming to support the widows and their children.
  • Training widows and some orphans in vocational skills to make jewelry, belts and other fittings using beads and various local and modern materials.
  • Attracted a number of volunteers from various parts of the world.
  • Psychosocial support to HIV/AIDS victims.
